City Council Meeting
Council approved multiple mayoral appointments to boards and committees and passed several budget orders including 2024-014 (opioid settlement fund appropriation $114,123.63), 2024-015 (DPW snow & ice overspend authorization), 2024-026 (school collective bargaining settlements $310,396.12), 2024-027 (Cashman Playground appropriation $106,678.15), and authorized the ACTV renewal agreement 2024-029.
The City Council opened with a series of mayoral appointments to city boards and committees, approving individual nominations to the Historical Commission, Disposition Committee, Council on Aging Board, and several other items (2024-032 through 2024-047 and grouped items 2024-034–2024-042). The Council also approved the monthly list of licenses. Mayor Gove delivered a presentation on the city's financial condition; questions focused on sources of new growth and the timing of funds from Bailey Pond.
On second readings the Council passed several budget and operating orders recommended by the Budget & Finance subcommittee. They created an Opioid Settlement Special Revenue Fund and appropriated $114,123.63 from free cash (2024-014), authorized the DPW to overspend the FY2024 snow & ice appropriation of $250,000 (2024-015), and approved school-related appropriations including $310,396.12 for collective bargaining settlements (2024-026, passed with one abstention) and $106,678.15 for the Cashman School playground (2024-027). The Council also approved a renewal agreement with ACTV through June 30, 2032 (2024-029, amended for clerical corrections). Several ordinance items were continued to the Ordinance & Administration subcommittee; there was no public comment during the meeting.
