City Council Meeting

The City Council meeting on June 23, 2026 addressed a mix of policy, fiscal, and permitting matters. Councilors approved two mayoral reappointments to the Energy, Environmental and Sustainability Committee and cleared the June licensing list. Major approvals included adoption of the Housing Production Plan 2024–2029 (2026-086) after accepting Planning Board recommendations, authorization to accept a $1,199,660 Massachusetts Seaport Economic Council grant amendment for the Washington Landing Boat Launch restoration (2026-103), and establishment of a Solid Waste Enterprise Fund pursuant to M.G.L. c.44, §53F½ (2026-108). The council also approved several budget and transfer orders (including Elm Street Fire Station floor repair and a $2,267.04 SAFER-to-General-Fund transfer) and approved a $10,000 earmark for AHS helmet covers (2026-102).

Councilors considered and approved substituted and revised inter-departmental transfers for FY26 (2026-110); the council approved a substituted version unanimously, then accepted administration-requested increases to legal and employee benefits transfers (a 5-2 vote), and finally approved the order as revised (5-2). During discussion of the Housing Production Plan members noted separate recommendations from the Planning Board and the administration and confirmed that the Merrimac Valley Planning Commission will produce the revisions. Two public hearings for storage-permit change-of-ownership applications at 241-243 Main St (2026-112) and 132 Elm St (2026-113) were opened and closed the same evening and both permits were approved unanimously. No public commenters were recorded during the meeting.
