RVCS Committee on Trustees Meeting

The Committee on Trustees met on October 8, 2025. The meeting was called to order at 6:05 PM and the committee voted to approve the September 10, 2025 minutes. The group reviewed and discussed a set of board goals across several areas: development (complete a strategy plan and expand committee membership to support larger fundraising/engagement efforts), finance (create a trackable budget for grounds), accountability (develop dashboards and metrics, with a recommendation to track against MCAS data and supplement with Montessori-aligned measures where possible), trustees (improve meeting time management, recruit new trustees—multiple potential candidates were identified—and update bylaws with a review sequence to be sent first to Erin, then Chris, then Tanya), executive (align policies to appropriate ownership), and grievance (bring an HR organization in-house as soon as possible).

The committee also discussed board education and engagement: using short (10–15 minute) monthly training segments focused on areas where the annual assessment showed weakness—examples included revisiting Montessori practices (“Montessori moments”), financial literacy, and committee overviews—and a push to increase public involvement in board meetings. A proposal for a board retreat at Alnoba in Kensington was raised (including mindfulness activities and team-building exercises) with a suggested budget of $5,000. Under other business, a group was formed to review the bylaws and prepare materials for discussion at the next meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 6:58 PM. No public comments or external applicants/ordinances were considered during this session.
