Cultural Council Meeting
Agenda includes a presentation of a proposed fund-raising plan, and discussions of Open Studios 2026, Art @ City Hall, and other public art projects.
The Cultural Council met April 7, 2026. Members reviewed financial balances, heard a high-level annual fundraising plan presentation, and received reports on grants and marketing. Marketing volunteers were assigned to track grant recipients’ events for calendar inclusion. The Council reviewed Cultural Center operations: the online rental system is live, the Center has its first reservation, Bonnie Brady will host four makers’ classes and the first two Speakers Series events are planned, and the first exhibit (North of Boston Print Collaborative, June 20–July 3) will be staffed by ACC volunteers on two weekends with other visits by appointment.
Public art and Open Studios were major discussion items. The Council confirmed payment of the Open Studios trolley deposit and noted a sponsorship inquiry from LaMacchia Realty. For public art, members met with artist Emily Jewett regarding a Hanley Court/82 Main Street mural (the artist will present concepts to the property owners' board) and discussed a new mural at 20 Friend Street; for 20 Friend Street the Council outlined a two-phase process (Request for Qualifications followed by a Request for Proposals) and proposed providing stipends for artists’ proposal work while seeking potential matching funds from the developer. Poetry Month activities are underway; funding for the Tapestry of Voices contest awards remains unclear and ACC will consider whether to fund awards at the May meeting. No public comments were recorded.
