Cultural Council Cultural Center Subcommittee Meeting
Subcommittee will review updates to the Cultural Center proposal, consider a proposed Artist Education Series, and discuss policies and procedures for exhibiting artwork at the Cultural Center.
The Cultural Center Subcommittee met to finalize operational details and programming plans for the Cultural Center at 37 Millyard. Members reviewed cleaning and maintenance arrangements (city cleaners will provide free cleaning every Thursday through June 2026 and the group will seek placement on the city cleaning contract thereafter), confirmed that lightbulb replacement and a kitchen drain repair are needed for an April opening, and noted DPW’s limited capacity for other click/fix items. Booking and payment workflows were established: a Google Calendar (managed by the Executive Assistant) will be used for bookings with ACC subcommittees and the library archivist managing their own events while other requests route through City Hall; a Google spreadsheet log will track requests and payments, Victoria will collect checks and cash, and Joanne will deposit funds to the ACC account.
The subcommittee decided on operational and programming policies: a rental fee structure of $100 for a half-day and $200 for a full-day was adopted (to be reevaluated after cleaning costs are known), parking and neighbor-notification guidelines were set, and the monthly program series was delayed to May to allow adequate planning. Programming topics of interest and a preference to compensate speakers were discussed, and the group will request a $1,000 speakers' budget at the ACC meeting. For exhibits, the committee plans two shows in the first year (a low-cost group exhibit with artist-managed hanging/staffing and an Open Studios exhibit), with pop-up shows also possible; Amy will source hanging hardware and cost estimates, Joanne will research the purchase order process, and Bonnie will update the proposal for ACC approval. Public comment: none.
