Library Board of Trustee Meeting

The Board reviewed routine reports and focused substantial discussion on FY27 budgeting, staffing levels, facility maintenance, and policy updates. Director Aimie Westphal presented the FY27 budget options and staffing analysis showing a 53-hour reduction since 2019; trustees expressed concern that further staffing losses could put the library's state certification at risk. Facilities was a major topic after the library failed the annual fire inspection; trustees discussed liability, the absence of a facilities director position, and directed the director to increase the library facility line in the FY27 budget by $5,000 (understanding those funds will be administered by DPW).

The board took several formal actions: they approved renaming the Community Information Board Policy to 'Public Posting in Library Policy' and accepted the Museum Pass Policy with no changes, both unanimously. Trustees also agreed (by consensus) to advocate for the Finance Subcommittee's FY27 budget recommendation rather than the city-directed level-funded budget to preserve staffing and certification. In public comment, a City Councilor attended and stated an intention to bring the certification risk to the City Council, noting that loss of certification would jeopardize eligibility for state construction grants and ADA compliance efforts.
