Historical Commission Meeting
The Historical Commission will review several property-specific matters including preliminary presentations for preservation projects at 19 Prospect Street, 2-4 Elmwood, and 230 Main Street, and will hear determinations of historic eligibility or demolition significance for properties at 9 School Street (Ordway), 5 School Street, 14 Maple Street, and 234 Main Street.
The Amesbury Historical Commission reviewed several development proposals and made multiple determinations about historic eligibility and significance. Preliminary presentations were given for 19 Prospect St and 2-4 Elmwood St for general guidance. Substantive agenda items included proposed conversion of 9 School St (the former Ordway School) to a six-family dwelling, a demolition/rebuild plan for 5 School St, a subdivision and new-construction proposal at 14 Maple St (Frank Todd House), and a two-parcel proposal affecting 230–234 Main St where the owner seeks to preserve 230 and remove 234.
The Commission voted that 9 School St meets the guidelines for historic eligibility (Passed 7-0) and that 14 Maple St meets historic eligibility (Passed 7-0). A motion was made to find 5 School St historically significant (vote not recorded in the minutes). The commission also voted to find 234 Main St historically significant (Passed 7-0); commissioners debated 234 Main St's age and historic character during that discussion. The annual report discussion was tabled to the next meeting. No public comments are recorded in the minutes.
