Library Board of Trustees Meeting
Trustees accepted the immediate resignation of Bernadette Lucas; Trustees Anne Campbell and Laurie Cameron announced they will not seek re-election this year.
The Trustees reviewed regular reports and operational updates, including Friends of the Library fundraising activity, the FY25 budget report (noting salaries came in about $2,000 over budget), and a detailed Facilities Report outlining ongoing custodial burdens handled by library leadership. Capital-project updates included pending contract and paint-sample decisions for the window restoration, progress on shed/fence work, ongoing issues with climate-control equipment for Special Collections, and confirmation that a $6,000 award for new air conditioners is now available and being coordinated with DPW and the vendor.
The Director highlighted June and FY25 usage statistics (including FY25 totals: 59,723 visits, 126,023 physical checkouts/renewals, and a large increase in electronic checkouts), recent outreach at the Block Party and Pride events, work on procedures for responding to ICE requests, and technology plans such as reintroducing a microfilm reader. Subcommittee updates covered communications (including how to communicate about federal library funding) and formation of a fundraising subcommittee chaired by Alex Matthews. In new business the Board unanimously accepted Trustee Bernadette Lucas’s immediate resignation; Trustees Anne Campbell and Laurie Cameron announced they will not run for re-election.
