Liquor License Commission Meeting
Hearing continued for Forrest Hill Brewing Co. DBA Mill 77 (77 Elm St) on its application for a Section 12 All Alcohol license; Amesbury Gas and Convenience (23 Rocky Hill Rd) was approved for a Section 15 Wine & Malt license.
The Liquor License Commission met to consider two new-license applications. The first was an application from Forrest Hill Brewing Company, LLC (Mill 77) at 77 Elm Street for a Section 12 All Alcohol license. An abutter spoke at length with concerns about notification of neighbors, parking, noise, safety on the stone steps to the parking area, proximity to a church meeting in the building, and the change in atmosphere if the brewery expanded beyond on‑premise brewed malt beverages. The applicant’s representative responded that the business intends to remain a brewery, would offer packaged wines and pre-mixed/canned cocktails rather than mixed drinks, will not change hours, uses staff training to prevent overserving, and is working on parking mitigation. After discussion, the commission voted unanimously to continue the Mill 77 hearing to a future meeting when all commissioners can be present in person.
The second item was an application from Amesbury Gas and Convenience Inc. at 23 Rocky Hill Road for a Section 15 Wine and Malt Beverages license. The applicant was present and stated he had not applied for a license at that location previously; there were no substantive questions from the commission. A motion to approve the application was made, seconded, and passed unanimously. The meeting closed after the commission set a tentative date to reconvene to continue the Mill 77 hearing.
