Historical Commission Meeting
Historic review held for 201 Elm St (historic preservation special permit) and a full demolition permit application for 58 Pleasant Valley Rd (commission found the Pleasant Valley property not historically significant); staff also provided an update on 5 and 9 School St RFP status.
The Amesbury Historical Commission met on March 6, 2025. The meeting focused on three property matters: a historic preservation special permit review for 201 Elm Street, a full demolition permit review for 58 Pleasant Valley Road, and a project update on 5 and 9 School Street. Staff from the Office of Community & Economic Development (OCED) attended and provided background information where relevant.
The commission voted to find the original/main structure at 201 Elm Street historically significant (motion passed 5-0). For 58 Pleasant Valley Road, the owner described the building's condition and recent alterations; OCED staff reported the structure was rebuilt in 1905 but is currently compromised with limited historic material. Applying National Register guidelines on surviving characteristics, the commission voted that the Pleasant Valley property is not historically significant (motion passed 5-0). OCED also provided a brief update that an RFP for 5 and 9 School Street is nearly complete and responses are expected within about 60 days.
