Library Board of Trustees Communications Subcommittee Meeting
The Communications Committee met to review recent outreach efforts and plan ongoing communications for the Amesbury Public Library. Members discussed materials used at National Night Out (a flier explaining the roles of Trustees and the Friends) and suggested adding a map to better direct people to the library at future events. Director Aimie Westphal reported on a three-day conference about better coordinating Trustees, Friends, and Foundations; ideas included short, consistent explanations of each group’s role, inviting a Friends representative to communications subcommittee and monthly Trustees meetings, and increased Trustee participation in replying to posts on the local Amesbury Talks Facebook group.
The group focused on developing concise messaging: Mak will type and share retreat notes and prepare talking points about how Trustees differ from Friends; Bernadette will prepare talking points about the Library of Things; Anne will prepare talking points about the role of Trustees; and Jessica will build a spreadsheet of advocates/allies and assign outreach contacts at the September meeting. No public comments were recorded. The committee agreed to schedule its next meeting in October and adjourned at 7:05 p.m. (motion to adjourn made by Jessica, seconded by Bernadette; unanimous).
