Library Board of Trustees Communications Subcommittee Meeting
Discussion of trustee job description and an elevator pitch, plus a review of common questions trustees are asked. The committee will also consider other new business and miscellaneous items.
The Communications Committee met on June 10, 2024. Attendees reviewed trustee onboarding materials and agreed that the trustee job description is included in the onboarding packet; they also decided that each Trustee will develop a personal elevator pitch at the upcoming retreat, guided by common themes. No substantive votes on policy, budgets, or appointments were recorded.
Committee members discussed outreach and communications strategies, including offering library tours to local stakeholders (city council, new Trustees, state representatives, historic commission, charitable trust committee, and chamber of commerce), drawing inspiration from the Boston Public Library Fund, increasing use of Trustee email for communications, assigning Trustees to specific local stakeholders with regular updates, and submitting articles to the Council on Aging and Chamber of Commerce newsletters. They noted the upcoming public forum for the Facilities Master Plan on June 18 as an important opportunity to hear community perspectives. The meeting adjourned at 7:05 p.m. by motion, unanimously.
