Amesbury Cultural Council Meeting
Council approved revised Art at City Hall dates and set the next show theme to 'Mixed Media'; members agreed to pursue public murals including a planned site visit with artist Whitney Dellea and advancement of a Lake Gardner mural supported by a $2,500 MCC festival grant.
The Cultural Council met to review program reports, grants, marketing and public art initiatives. Members discussed grant logistics (signatures and reimbursement vs. vendor payments), plans for Poetry Month marketing and a web calendar of events, and print materials (banner and rack cards). The Council voted unanimously to approve funds for a new banner and to reimburse the Poet Laureate up to $800 for a visiting-poet stipend for 2024. Treasurer and grant-account status were reviewed; members noted delays in city reimbursement processing.
Reports covered exhibit scheduling and public-art planning: the Art at City Hall show schedule was adjusted (run extended through early May with an April 14 opening) and the next show theme set as 'Mixed Media.' Council members agreed to pursue public-art opportunities, including a site visit with artist Whitney Dellea targeted for May and advancing plans for a Lake Gardner mural (identified as funded by an MCC festival grant of $2,500). Public commenters expressed interest in poetry and community projects (including open-studios promotion and a bike-path/pollinator garden idea), and staff/liaison representatives noted opportunities for increased collaboration with the library and other local partners.
