The City of Amesbury is authorizing the Mayor to renew the inter-municipal agreement with the Town of Salisbury for regional animal control and inspection services for an additional one-year period (July 7, 2024 through June 30, 2025). Under the renewal, Salisbury remains the lead municipality and an Administrative Steering Committee will oversee program implementation. The agreement specifies shared governance, reporting requirements, and cost-sharing: Salisbury will pay the salary and health insurance costs of the Animal Control Officer, with Amesbury paying half of those costs. The Animal Control Officer reports to the Salisbury Police Chief, with oversight by Amesbury's Chief of Police when performing duties in Amesbury. The program runs 10:00 AM–4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with after-hours services contracted separately. The deal can be adjusted or expanded with written amendments approved by both towns.
