Library Board of Trustees Meeting
Board adopted the Building Closure and Program Cancellation (Storm) Policy; the School Street project sale was reported as closing soon; MBLC construction grant timeline announced (application opens March, LOI due May 2027) and a Building Committee will be formed to pursue the grant.
The Trustees reviewed monthly reports from administration and staff, covering facilities and capital projects, budget and programming. Notable updates included the upcoming lighting project (work Sept–Oct with temporary Children’s Room closure), the School Street project sale nearing closing, the carpet project scheduled for completion in October, and a denied state earmark for replacing a temporary ramp. Trustees also discussed ongoing cleaning contract issues and a reduction in invoiced amounts when contractual cleaning is missed.
On policy and planning, the Board unanimously adopted the Building Closure and Program Cancellation Policy (formerly the Storm Policy). Trustees agreed to form a Building Committee of Trustees and community volunteers to prepare for the MBLC construction grant (application opens in March with a letter of intent due May 2027). Other actions included scheduling a Preservation Committee building walkthrough for September 15 and a Fundraising Committee plan to target 2,000 households in the library’s annual appeal. Staff flagged a community concern raised on social media about a biography read at storytime referencing a queer community; staff emphasized the need to provide context and education. Director's updates noted positive community response to new 9 a.m. opening hours and renewed efforts to hire a part-time administrative assistant using previously approved state aid funds.
