Community Preservation Committee

The Community Preservation Committee met virtually on May 27, 2026. Attendance included Suzanne Egan, Peter Frey, Wayne Griffith, Joel Nice, and Andrew LaFleur; the committee approved the April 29, 2026 minutes (vote 3-0-2 with two abstentions from members not present at that prior meeting). The meeting experienced connection issues with some members unable to join initially, and the committee continued while those members attempted to connect.

The substantive portion of the meeting focused on reviewing draft sections of the Community Preservation Plan, beginning with the open space and recreation section. Committee members praised the draft layout and discussed priorities and gaps: Joel Nice emphasized a demonstrated need for soccer fields and noted that parties responsible for the disc golf course had expressed interest in applying for funds; Andrew LaFleur highlighted goals around inclusivity and connectivity and urged the plan to address operational/resource constraints and environmental and maintenance gaps; Wayne Griffith referenced the city’s roughly 800 acres of open space and asked about the statutory 10% funding eligibility for open space and recreation. Suzanne Egan recommended adding brief overviews that define each section (what is allowed by law), citations of sources and meetings, and links to referenced plans; Wayne Griffith also asked about including links. With several members still absent, Suzanne proposed adjourning and rescheduling for a time when the meeting would be accessible to all. A motion to adjourn and reschedule was made and passed (4-1), and the meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m. No public comments or hearings were recorded in the minutes.
