RVCS Board Meeting
Board advanced draft bylaws revisions (including new whistleblower, succession, and document-retention provisions), identified members for a Director Evaluation Subcommittee, and approved an SOP to standardize Accountability Committee use of student data. The board also approved a staffing plan to bring back the school psychologist part time and reviewed grounds redesign and playground work with an easement targeted for recording by mid-December.
The board meeting focused on policy, oversight, staffing, and facilities updates. Trustees reviewed Accountability Committee findings and directed the creation of a Standard Operating Procedure to ensure consistent collection and use of disaggregated student data over time; the committee also discussed options for remote meetings to preserve continuity. The Committee on Trustees reported draft bylaws changes to align terminology and governance practices with current operations and added new policies (whistleblower protection, succession planning, document retention, public access to records); the board asked staff to validate the remote-work clause against state language and to add document-retention timelines.
Operational matters included identification of members for a Director Evaluation Subcommittee and approval to bring the school psychologist back on a part-time/ad-hoc basis. The board reviewed grounds-redesign progress — relocating a slide above a discovered pipe, an Asheville playground completion target (with a swing arriving after the holiday), a planned French drain, and a goal to complete and record an easement by mid-December. The Grievance Committee referred a teacher submission to HR, authorized engagement of an HR firm for a recent parent complaint, and tasked staff with drafting a parent-notification recommendation for behavioral incidents. Development and event planning items (a Dec. 2 development meeting, a Winter Solstice event on 12/18, and a Readathon planned for Feb. 2–13) were also scheduled.
