Amesbury Cultural Council Meeting

The Cultural Council meeting focused primarily on final preparations for the upcoming Open Studios event, routine budget reporting, and updates about the Cultural Center and other program activities. The treasurer reported a balance of $19,875 and noted $9,000 of anticipated spending to support Open Studios; discussion of grants and the Massachusetts Cultural Council packet review was scheduled for the next meeting. Open Studios logistics were discussed in detail: volunteer staffing for Friday setup and Sunday load-out, requests for no-parking signs and traffic barricades to facilitate trolley access, an electronic sign announcement, lawn and A-frame signage distribution to businesses, brochure printing status, a merchant advertisement, publicity (Daily News article), raffle table needs and basket assembly, and that musicians are confirmed. A motion to purchase two balloon bouquets for $40 was made and approved unanimously to support the event.

Facility and program updates included a Cultural Center renovation/status report noting the water to the upstairs unit has been turned off until a new tenant arrives and ongoing cleaning concerns (including possible hiring of a dedicated cleaner and coordination with city cleaning schedules); the Cultural Center subcommittee will next meet in January. The Art at City Hall program is on hold until January with start details still undecided. The Poet Laureate recruitment had no applications at the prior deadline and the period was extended to November; the council discussed making a promotional video and a possible fundraiser outreach for April. Public comment included one attendee expressing intent to join the council next year and noting prior work experience with the MCC. The council scheduled Open Studios for November 8–9 and set December 2 as the next meeting, with hopes it will be held at the Cultural Center.
