Approved a new Section 15 Wine/Malt license for Shree Raavee, Inc (Sunoco) at 108 Macy St; commissioners also reviewed filing of local acceptance of MGL ch.138 §12D with City Council and discussed proposed licensing fee changes including a $200 transfer fee and raising one-day license fees to $50 (non-profits $0).
The Liquor License Commission met on September 2, 2025. The primary substantive action was a hearing and approval of a new Section 15 Wine/Malt license for Shree Raavee, Inc, operating a Sunoco gas station at 108 Macy Street. The applicant's license manager answered questions about alcohol storage, funding (noting details were in the application), and product mix (about 95% beer). Commissioners emphasized the importance of carding all purchasers. The motion to approve the license was made by Derek Balaam, seconded by John Kirton, and passed 2-0. Commissioner Balaam informed the applicant that the ABCC response typically takes 3–6 weeks after the signed Licensing Authority Certification is filed. No members of the public were present for public comment.
Commissioners also reviewed ABCC renewal guidance for 2026 annual licenses and agreed to schedule a renewals meeting for the beginning of December. The meeting reviewed state guidance on updates to MGL ch.138, section 12d; Chief of Staff Ann Marie Casey reported that local acceptance was filed as a late file with City Council on September 2, 2025, with first reading and referrals planned for September 9, 2025. Commissioners discussed attending Council subcommittee meetings and the referral process. They also discussed adding a transfer fee of $200 to the Schedule of Fees pending passage of the local acceptance and raising the fee for One-Day Liquor Licenses to $50 while keeping non-profit one-day permits at $0. The meeting opened with approval of prior minutes and adjourned at 6:41 p.m.
