Trustees of War Memorials Meeting

The Trustees heard public comment from a local Eagle Scout who proposed an Eagle Scout Project to fundraise, build, and install three benches at Sumner Goldsmith Park. The Scout provided a written proposal with timeline and costs and indicated any excess funds would be donated to the Trustees; board members expressed positive support, offered volunteer assistance for assembly/cleanup, and the mayor agreed to add the project to the next meeting agenda and to coordinate with DPW on placement to avoid conflicts with landscaping or snow removal.
Financial and project updates focused on memorial maintenance and grant activity. The board reviewed Trust Fund and RESTOR account balances (Trust Fund balance $18,071.80 for Soldiers’ Memorials; RESTOR balance $20,625.15 including a $5,000 grant for the Rocky Hill Memorial). Trustees reported that the Rocky Hill Memorial flagpole was rededicated on June 14 and fitted with a solar light; the group reviewed volunteer hours (so far 93 hours) that may be applied as in‑kind match for the $5,000 Veterans’ Heritage grant and discussed finalizing hour calculations. The board voted unanimously (4–0) to pay the remaining $1,265 on the Proforma invoice related to the flagpole from the Trustees’ Trust account. Members also reviewed condition reports for other memorials: the Franco‑American Memorial was identified as needing more extensive work (washing, repainting, flagpole top repair) and winterization guidance; Trustees will pursue a vendor quote, Jancy will consult with Lou Bartley about winterization, and the mayor will check with the grantor about applying the grant match/volunteer hours to additional memorial projects.
