Cultural Council Meeting
Cultural Center open house planned for Sept. 13 as part of Trails to Sails; Amesbury Open Studios set for Nov. 8–9 with venues including the senior center, Costello, the Cultural Center and possibly City Hall; Open Studios sponsorship structure finalized with partial $2,000 commitment and a plan to seek an additional $2,000 from Newburyport Bank. Also: Juneteenth Celebration scheduled for June 14 at Zach Fields and a pollinator garden project (dubbed 'Pollinator Playground') is underway.
The Cultural Council met to review event planning, grants, marketing, and Cultural Center activation. The treasurer and grants reports noted account balances and outstanding reimbursements; a pollinator garden has been installed and organizers are developing a seed bank and sign for what they hope to call the 'Pollinator Playground.' Marketing updates included new bus graphics for Juneteenth and renewal of the domain; several recent and upcoming events were reported (Summer Music Series, Kids Day, plant/paint events, a birdwalk). The Juneteenth Celebration on June 14 at Zach Fields was discussed, with weather uncertainty noted.
Major program planning focused on the Cultural Center renovation and Amesbury Open Studios 2025. The council confirmed an open house at the Cultural Center for Trails to Sails on September 13 and discussed ribbon-cutting logistics. Open Studios planning covered venue use (senior center, Costello, Cultural Center, possibly City Hall), sponsorship packaging (co-sponsorship slots at $250 each), a partial $2,000 sponsorship commitment from Mel, outreach to Newburyport Bank for an additional $2,000, and the council's plan to cover a remaining $1,000 if needed. The committee decided to end the artist matchmaking process, require a $50 brochure listing fee, and pursue a silent-auction strategy (volunteer needed). Additional items included scheduling the next City Hall exhibit (Costello) for June 24–25, invitations extended to two people for the Poet Laureate committee with a July fundraiser planned, and administrative steps to track Open Studios attendance and create an event 'to-go kit.'
