Library Board of Trustees Meeting

The Amesbury Public Library Board reviewed operational, facilities, fundraising, and capital-project matters. Major topics included the Window Restoration project (six front windows) — the bid package is being finalized, sample colors are installed on two windows, lead and asbestos were detected and contractors must follow required protocols, and the removal of birch trees in front of the building is expected within six months. Trustees also heard the Facilities Report: the shed was moved, chain-link fence removed, and new fence and roof materials are onsite and awaiting DPW installation; facility maintenance funds for FY25 have been depleted. The director reported the new cleaning company is not providing consistent service and she will escalate the issue to the city contract manager, and the city completed a review of non-union staff pay resulting in an increase for the director.

On budget and development items, the director noted a $2,000 donation from Munters for the Youth Summer Reading program and reported budget-line adjustments to make it through the fiscal year. A fundraising presentation from Rachel Heine (Columbus Metropolitan Library) drew strong interest; trustees asked Laurie to investigate Donor Advised Funds and report back. The Board received updates on programming and staffing: a part-time librarian (Sara) began 5/12/25, patron feedback on the new reference desk has been strongly positive, and several successful youth and community programs were reported. The MLA/IMLS funding item was raised (the APL was urged to contact U.S. senators in support). Five trustees (Laurie, Mak, Alex, Anne and Bernadette) are up for upcoming Board elections and pulling nomination papers begins tomorrow. There were no public comments at the meeting.
