Council on Aging Board Meeting
The Program Coordinator (Andrew Suggs) resigned effective Jan 24; the position has been posted and a new hiring process established by Mayor Gove with interviews to be conducted by a panel.
The Amesbury Council on Aging Board met on January 24, 2025 to address the immediate staffing impacts following the departure of Program Coordinator Andrew Suggs, who left effective that day. The board noted the position has been posted and that Mayor Gove has implemented a new hiring process requiring panel interviews. Members reviewed a printed job description for the Program Coordinator/Community Relations role, which includes oversight of daily volunteer operations and development of community-provider relationships.
Because of the vacancy and short-staffing, the board assigned interim coverage for several tasks: newsletter production will be handled by van driver Dave Jellison with help from Board member Jim Chapman; birthday cards and room reservations will be managed by volunteers and COA staff; volunteer management (greeter and reception desk) and finding replacements when staff call out will be handled by volunteers and staff; and Director Doreen Arnfield will prepare a schedule for set-up and break-down assistance for events and activities. Board members affirmed their commitment to support the director to ensure continued Senior Center services. The next regular meeting was scheduled for February 13.
