Cashman School Council Meeting

The Cashman School Council met to review school operations, recent events, and the School Improvement Plan. Staff and parents reported operational updates including that report cards will be sent electronically on December 4 (with Special Education progress reports issued on paper for this first reporting period), a recent restart of the food rescue program with donations to Our Neighbor’s Table, and intermittent hot‑lunch shortages. The group debriefed the Fall STEM Festival and fifth‑grade science fair, noting strong positive student and teacher feedback and that the events were effective in increasing hands‑on STEM engagement.

Committee members reviewed the School Improvement Plan, which builds on the district CARE initiative. Noticings included a high number of students in the low to low‑average range and questions about communications, comparisons between DIBELS and MAP results, and interventions for third‑grade math and EL families. Responses and planned actions included use of WIN time for interventions, flexible math groupings across grades, using MAP RIT scores to guide IXL pathways, and scheduling a data event ('Coffee with the Principal') to address questions about student data and report cards. The school also reported receiving a grant to work with the SEB Academy to develop its PBIS model (year one coaching, cohort participation, and monthly consults) and described examples of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) practices and voluntary professional development opportunities for the new math curriculum. No other substantive items were raised and the meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn.
