Budget and Finance Committee Meeting
Committee recommended approval of the FY25 annual tax classification (2024-138) and an increase in exemption amounts (2024-139); recommended a $1,800 transfer for Veterans Services (2024-147); and recommended the mayor be authorized to acquire 5 Market St with a $3,150,000 appropriation (2024-149).
The Budget & Finance Committee met to review four substantive orders: the FY25 Annual Classification Hearing (2024-138), an increase in exemption amounts for qualified applicants (2024-139), a $1,800 intra-departmental transfer for Veterans Services (2024-147), and authorization and appropriation to acquire 5 Market St (2024-149). Chief Assessor Diana Caswell attended for the classification and exemption items and answered questions, including confirmation that 5 Market St had been assessed at $3.3M. The Veterans Services officer explained the requested transfer would fund a valuable intern position. OCED Director Nick Cracknell presented the 5 Market St acquisition proposal and councilors asked follow-up questions.
A member of the public spoke in opposition to the 5 Market St acquisition during public comment. For each of the four agenda items the committee voted to return the matters to the full City Council with positive recommendations: each vote passed 3-0. The meeting concluded after those recommendations were recorded.
