Shay Memorial School Council Meeting
Agenda includes introduction/update of School Council members, review of the 2024–2025 School Council meeting dates, clarification of council roles and quorum requirements, and review of Grades 1–2 DIBELS assessment data.
The Shay Memorial School Council met on September 12, 2024. Attendees included Principal Jim Montanari (Co-Chair), teacher representatives Susan Gonthier (Co-Chair), Alli Tanzella, and Jennifer Hawrylciw, community member Jennifer Kay, and parent representatives Brianna Murdock, Sara Grossman, and John Kirton. The council reviewed its role and membership rules (quorum requirements, composition, duties related to the Developmental Continuous Action Plan (DCAP), and limitations on authority), and confirmed the regular meeting schedule (second Thursday of each month with noted exceptions in December and April). Members were provided with a copy of the DCAP at the meeting.
The primary substantive content was presentation and discussion of fall DIBELS literacy screening results for Grades 1 and 2. Grade 1 Fall results versus goals: PSF (Phoneme Segmentation Fluency) — 77% Core (goal 88%); NWF-CLS (Nonsense Word Fluency — Correct Letter Sounds) — 54% Core (goal 68%); Accuracy — 39% Core (goal 65%); ORF (Oral Reading Fluency) — 48% Core (goal 68%). Grade 2 Fall results versus goals: NWF-CLS — 80% Core (goal 88%); Accuracy — 68% Core (goal 82%); ORF — 60% Core (goal 77%); MAZE — 54% Core (goal 73%). Year-to-year comparisons showed first grade results largely similar to 2023 and second grade measures generally improved from 2023 to 2024. The meeting concluded at 4:08 p.m. with a motion to adjourn made by Susan Gonthier and seconded by Sara Grossman (motion unanimous); the next meeting was scheduled for October 10, 2024 at 3:30 p.m.
