Amesbury Cultural Council Meeting
Discussion of the 28th annual Open Studios (including finances, sponsorship, publicity, and volunteers), updates on public art projects including Pride Stairs and a mural at Amesbury Industrial, and programming at Art @ City Hall. The Poet Laureate will present a report and Grants leadership and recipient project updates will be addressed.
The Cultural Council met to review finances, event planning for Open Studios, public art projects, grant activity, and program staffing ideas. The treasurer reported account balances and pending expenses; the council discussed grant funding (including a $2,500 MCC allocation received), outstanding grant requests, and the marketing budget for Open Studios. A formal vote approved fees and printing for the Open Studios brochure and related marketing expenditures. Members reviewed sponsorships and artist sign-ups for Open Studios, signage and brochure costs, volunteer coordination, and promotional outreach.
Public-art updates and program planning were a major focus: paint has been purchased for the Pride stairs and a mural project at the Amesbury Industrial building is underway using a boom lift with an anticipated public reveal; members discussed coordinating a fundraiser at Flatbreads on October 8. A visiting artist described plans for community tile-making workshops and school engagement during Open Studios and upcoming student projects. The group also discussed Poet Laureate coordination (not finalized), a potential six-month shared project-manager position to support ACC programming, and calendar items including an Art Summit on Sept. 27 and Open Studios-related deadlines and mixers. No contested hearings or ordinance actions occurred; public comments included visiting artists’ proposals for workshops and community engagement.
