Council on Aging Board Meeting

The Amesbury Council on Aging Board met on March 12, 2026. The board accepted the minutes from the February 12 meeting and received the treasurer’s report showing a Revolving account ending balance of $11,003.62 after $106.71 in gas expenses and a Misc. Grants Fund balance of $12,810.66 after $573.78 in prescription reimbursement and a $30 donation. No statistical report was presented.

The director’s position remains vacant; the job description was expected to be finalized and posted by the end of the week or the following week. More than 40 residents went to City Hall to express displeasure about the senior center being closed Wednesday and Friday afternoons; staff member Adrienne conducted one-on-one conversations with seniors and presented a summary to the mayor. The board discussed safety and access at the Costello Center parking lot, noting insufficient spaces and that two people had fallen. Winter and near-term programming updates included a karaoke event on March 26, a monthly Heart Health Clinic with a free blood pressure cuff, an April hearing clinic, and a new “Car Fit” program run by the police department with AARP.

FCOA President Lee Ford reported on Friends of the COA activities: a craft fair scheduled for April 26 (9–2), taking over the Cider Hill cookout on June 25 (with FCOA seeking COA Board assistance), and plans for a health fair in early September. The meeting adjourned at 3:50 p.m.; the next regular meeting was scheduled for April 9, 2026.
