Council on Aging Meeting
Board moved to contact City Councilors and potentially form a committee to meet the Mayor over the prolonged vacancy and recent removal of the Amesbury Council on Aging Director job posting; the Program Coordinator position has been eliminated.
The meeting opened with routine reports: the November 13, 2025 minutes were accepted and Treasurer’s figures for November–December and balances for the Revolving and Misc. Grants funds were reviewed. Comparative statistics for October–December showed Social Services activity down, attributed to the Director position being vacant since March 2025, while Support Groups have increased.
During the Director’s report (presented by the Assistant Director), staff updates and programming items were discussed: the Director posting has been removed from the city website; the Program Coordinator position has been eliminated; 19 people have signed up for the Tax Work-Off program; a new support group (“Where Do We Go From Here”) launched January 8 with 18 attendees; and the rumor that the Amesbury Senior Center was closing was dispelled. Maggie shared correspondence with the HR Director and the Mayor about the vacant Director position. The board agreed to contact City Councilors to raise concerns about the unfilled Director role and the removed posting, and discussed forming a committee to meet with the Mayor to learn her plans. No formal votes on appointments, budgets, or ordinances were recorded.
