Trustees of War Memorials Meeting
Approved using $1,850 from the Soldier’s Memorial Trust Fund as the matching contribution for the Franco‑American Flagpole under the Veterans' Heritage Grant; Eagle Scout bench project at Sumner Goldsmith Park approved to proceed pending DPW placement.
The Trustees reviewed the status of the Veterans' Heritage Grant program: the $5,000 grant has been fully expended on the Rocky Hill Memorial Flagpole, with an additional $1,265 drawn from the Soldier’s Memorial Trust Fund and volunteer hours to be calculated (volunteer time valued at $34.97/hour). The board discussed a Franco‑American Flagpole quote; members clarified that vendor cleaning/stripping includes power washing and stripping prior to repainting. The board voted unanimously (4-0) to use $1,850 from the Soldier’s Memorial Trust Fund as part of the grant matching funds for that quote.
The Trustees also revisited an Eagle Scout proposal to install benches at Sumner Goldsmith Park that had been presented during a prior public comment period. The DPW had not yet reviewed bench placement; the board voted unanimously (4-0) to allow the Eagle Scout project to proceed pending DPW approval of the bench locations. Additionally, the board designated a member to be able to authorize payment of the future flagpole invoice (motion approved 4-0), confirmed the board meets quarterly, and set the next meeting for September 30, 2025.
