Trustees of War Memorials Meeting
Approved the Rotary Club's 'Flags for Heroes' display at Justin Memorial Park (May 25–June 14). Trustees also discussed monument care and maintenance plans — including flagpole repairs, a planned DPW power-wash of the Justin Park walkway after April 1, and a proposed donor brick walkway to be presented at a future meeting.
The Trustees reviewed routine stewardship and maintenance of the city’s war memorials and approved a community event request. The board unanimously approved the Rotary Club’s use of Justin Memorial Park for a 'Flags for Heroes' display (setup May 25, fly through June 14, takedown June 15). Financial balances for the Trust Fund (for Soldiers’ Memorials moved to Justin Park) and the RESTOR fund (for restoration of all city war memorials) were reported.
Members discussed monument care and maintenance needs: Jancy will explore preservation/shrink-wrap options for the Franco‑American monument (not deemed necessary this year); Mayor Gove will follow up with Veterans Services about repairing flagpoles at Rocky Hill and the Franco‑American site; DPW will power-wash the Justin Park walkway after April 1. Trustees arranged for Dudley Farquar to present a proposed donor brick walkway at an upcoming meeting, tasked Tom Champion with speaking to Rogers Funeral Home about hedges at the Highlands Honor Roll, and agreed that James DeMars and Jancy will coordinate purchase/repair of a cracked urn at the Doughboy memorial (with Jancy offering a donation). The next meeting was set for May 9, 2024.
